The Contender Winner - The Latin Snake
I’m cribbing the bio below from the NBC web site, so you can go there to read more, but I gotta say the Contender was a great show (if you only watched it for the last half hour each week). I would regularly tune in half way into the show and catch a great half hour of boxing not really caring who the contenders were. In tonight’s finale (which was filled with all the slow motion cutaway cheese you would expect), the final two bouts were pretty much the best boxing I have seen since the last time I saw Roy Jones Jr. knock someone out. Forget pay-per-view, hat’s off to The Contender for providing excellent boxing entertainment. I wonder what happened to pretty boy Oscar Dela Hoya’s show???
Here is the bio of the show’s winner…Sergio Mora - The Latin Snake.
“Sergio Mora was born in a tiny apartment in East LA where he lived with his mother and three brothers until just a few weeks ago. At 24, he and his older brother have finally moved out… to the apartment downstairs. He is the first to admit that his family lives in the ghetto but bristles at being lumped into the East LA stereotype. Although he grew up without a father, his respect for his mother and the desire for a better life turned him to sports instead of gangs.
As a teenager, Sergio knocked out many of his friends just “goofing around” in the street. He started boxing at the age of fourteen and is currently undefeated as a Pro. When he isn’t training, he works with kids at a neighborhood youth gym built to give boys and girls an alternative to gangs. Sergio trains at the same gym and the signage on the front bears his picture and nickname: “the Latin Snake.” Sergio’s dream is to make enough money boxing to allow his mother to quit her job working at a warehouse and send her traveling the world … without his brothers.”

the latin snake rocks…he’s speed, he’s agility man he proved he’s too much for peter jr. man what was going on, on peter’s corner …he’s dad was annoying the latin snake but to no avail…if it were to go on for 12 rounds sergio would’ve knocked out peter!
alfonso gomez was ultra hot…he won the bronze over jesse brinkley…viva mexico!

the contender was the best show on tv in the last 2 years
the latin snake /out of 16 boxers the only one not too hang his gloves up says it all
alfonso gomez / got the number 2 spot in my mind
if not for peters second chance
but a great show and i hope too god someone picks this show back up
you want real life shows put 1 mill. in the center of a ring and let the best man win

Sergio Mora fought an brilliant fight last Tuesday. He elevated the fight to a work of art. The Latin Snake had speed, fluidity, power, stamina, and mental dominance over his opponent, Peter Manfredo. I wasn’t sure he was going to win, but I’m very happy he did!

I was rooting for Sergio, and I am happy he won.. but in the end “Alphonso” has my heart. He is one heck of a boxer and I will be following his career, which I expect to be great.

I think Peter should have won the fight, he deserved it. Sergio has got no heart and a bad attitude (the fight with Jessie showed that). Im guttered as i have been enjoying the series all the way through, rooting for Peter, and this is how it ends….

congratulations sergio you did it now your mum can stop working just like you wanted to, your a hell of a fighter i hope you carrie on you proved to everyone just how good you are. alfonso is aheck of a fighter to in my mind he got second but i would have loved it if it was you and him in the final.

Sergio Mora,
As soon as I seen him in his first fight, I knew he was going to go all the way. His got all the qualities he just needs to calm down on some occasions.
He used his intelligence to his advantage. Sergio was defending and he had Peter under control all the way.
His not just a boxer, only time will tell

this show was the best show of the year!! sergio caught my eye when i first seen it on t.v( hott!!!!)im so glad he won. he really deserved it! everyone should sign the petition to bring the contender back its on sergio’s website sergio@sergiomoraboxing.com GREAT show.GREAT fighters, but we all know sergio is the BEST!!!!!!
