Drew Rosenhaus For President…Of Something
Yes, he’s also a lawyer. Drew Rosenhaus must have decided it was time to show off that new haircut. The fact that the guy could stand on Terrell Owens’s lawn, in front of a microphone, and declare in true Lincolnian fashion, “I love this man!” just goes to show this ain’t reality TV.
A little background on Drew. He attended the University of Miami for his undergrad work, hanging around the weight room generating contact with Miami jocks. He graduated in ‘87, but kept his connections current, tapping into the Miami Mafia. This is a group of prominent, influential University of Miami alumni involved in business, politics and sports. They’re basically known for scratching eachother’s backs. It’s how Drew’s landed Edgerrin James, Santana Moss, Sean Taylor, and about 15 other U of M players during who take the field every Sunday.
He’s a graduate of Duke Law School, and the president of Rosenhaus Sports. You might remember him as the model for the Bob Sugar character in Jerry Maguire. On July 19, 2005 he was at the Grand Floridian Hotel in Orlando when he saw a kid slip to the bottom of a pool. He jumped in, administered CPR, and saved his life. And, in typical Drew fashion, he was a reluctant media darling.
Rosenhaus charges 3% commission on the deals he negotiates for clients. So, just as an example, remember when he was hyping Willis McGahee as a 1st round pick? Well, that $15 million deal he negotiated for Willis landed him half-a-million dollars. And TO’s newest $49 million contract? Well Drew didn’t negotiate that one. But he would have been on the receiving end of a nice payday had the Eagles swallowed their common sense and re-negotiated that deal. So he’s making a pretty good living talking out of both sides of his mouth. He’s basically out there dancing for his supper. And with his vested incentive in recouping a percentage of all his deals there’s absolutely no reason for him to be anything but intractable.
Is there any question this guy’s one of the biggest all-time jerks in the history of Western civilization? Not really. But you’ve got to remember this is a guy who went to law school! Think about his job. He gets to set his own salary and all he has to do is argue, spin, and hype his clients. For a guy who was already a pushy SOB with a love of that filthy lucre it’s the perfect playing field. The scary thing is he really, really loves his job.
“Terrell Owens is a great person.” Right Drew. “This is not a selfish man. He wants what’s best for everyone.”
They call him Bob Sugar because that’s the way he coats it.
