Mr. Green - Super Jew
An interesting article from the New York Times about Shawn Green and his moving to the New York Mets. The jist of the article is that Green is the best Jewish ball player since Sandy Koufax and Hank Greenberg. Being a Blue Jays fan and growing up in Toronto, I had the pleasure of seeing Shawn Green play as a Blue Jay in the prime of his career when he and Carlos Delgado routinely battled each other for the home run lead on the team. Green is certainly past his prime now, though I thought enough of him to take him in my keeper league this year. However, when he was with the Jays, he not only could crush the ball at the plate, but you wouldn’t dare run on his arm. I can remember many times when Green would play right field and toss a guy out trying to tag from second to third. So good on the Times to profile Green and even better on Green to embrace his Jewish heritage and become a part of a large community in New York.
