Calderon Says He Needs To Be #1
Jose Calderon has come out with some pretty strong statements on his blog about both his own basketball game and his feelings on the offer he should be getting from the Raptors. Not only does he expect to be paid for his exceptional season - and he did have an exceptional year - but he has no qualms about expressing his desire to be the number one guy on a playoff contender.
“What is clear is the fact that if I have to choose between a sports offer versus an economic offer, I will opt for the first. I want to be a starter and to be in a team that aspires for everything.”
Being in Toronto I have always found Calderon to be a humble guy when interviewed and he appears to be a team first guy but in his blog he certainly is not shy about how well he thinks he played.
“I am left with games like the one we played against San Antonio or those where my assists reached to 16 or 17 or the third game of the ‘Playoffs’ against the Magic, where I almost made my first triple-double.”
I am sure my opinion counts for nothing but there is no doubt in my mind that Calderon should be the number one guy in Toronto and it’s going to be time for MLSE to pony up the money and the love to Calderon on July 1.

I think he is right to want to be number 1, look at his numbers. If he was not playing in Canada he would be on ESPN every night.

Calderon is a good player but he plays in the East where you don’t have to face the intense defense guys like Kobe see every night in the West. He’d be stupid to leave the Raptors though they will for sure pay him the most.
