Fu@k Em Till Next Year

This has been covered pretty well in the blogsphere and in traditional media but I just stumbled on the story so pardon me if I am late to the party in commenting. I am referring to the email sent by accident to a Detroit Lions season ticket holder in response to his request to cancel his tickets.

The story goes as such, the season ticket holder was upset about his seats being moved without his permission prior to the 2007 season. These were six season tickets worth over $5,000. So when he wrote the Lions and was promised aisle seats for the 2008 season, he thought the issue was resolved. Turns out he was dead wrong. His 2008 invoice showed up with the same seats as the season before and he decided that was the last straw, he was giving up his tickets.

He wrote the Lions to this effect and got a most interesting (and obviously meant for internal eyes only) email correspondence in return. Apparently Lions employee Matt Schul and sent an email to Lance Powser in which he said “Lance…he is not talking about you here. Mark was asked to speak to these people and he said no. F…’em till until next year.” In this scenario, “Mark” refers to Lions ticket director Mark Graham.

In an era where fans easily become disenchanted with franchises for a variety of reasons and then are asked to put up tax dollars for the latest and greatest stadium or arena it is this kind of arrogance that not only sticks with one fan but as we see in this generation makes its way around the Internet.
