ESPN Remote Control?
As if the ESPN mobile phone was not a stupid enough stand-alone product, the marketers at ESPN are after you again to take a household product and let them brand the crap out of it. Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you the ESPN remote control…Ok maybe I want one…
ESPN Consumer Products, in conjunction with tvCompass, a provider of digital media solutions, announced the release of ESPN The Ultimate Remote, an internet-connected Wi-Fi device that combines advanced home theater control and one-touch real-time access to sports, standings, team information and news.
CNET is even drinking the Kool-Aid on this one saying:
“On paper anyway, ESPN The Ultimate Remote looks like a serious contender. The release notes that the remote not only “manages your home-theater components, set-top boxes, and IP equipment with intuitive ‘location-free’ setup using a standard wireless connection,” but you also get one-touch access to Internet content with an electronic program guide (EPG) for TV listings, a weather widget, mobile Internet browsing, and e-mail and text messaging. The only thing missing seems to be an RF option for accessing components hidden in a cabinet or a closet.”
The unit sells for approximately $300 at Amazon and even is sporting its own website here.
If you decide to get one for yourself or maybe even Pops, drop us a line and let us know how it is.
